Discover 83 acres of tropical beauty this National Public Gardens Day at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Located in Miami, FL, Fairchild is home to a world-renowned plant collection featuring palms, cycads, orchids, tropical fruit trees, and more. On Friday, May 9 from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., the Garden is offering $10 off regular admission to all visitors. Special membership rates will also be available.
Visitors can relax to the sounds of the waterfalls in the Rainforest, walk beside the swaying palm trees in the Palmetum, visit the colorful butterflies in the Wings of the Tropics exhibit, and much more. Marvel at the beautiful design exhibition by Brazilian designer Hugo França, whose reclaimed wood sculptures will be on view until the end of May as part of Art at Fairchild.
Several tours are available for guests. Guided walking tours of the Garden last approximately 45 minutes. Morning tours begin at the Visitor Center at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Afternoon walking tours begin at Cycad Circle at 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. An early morning bird watching walk begins at 7:45 a.m. at the Visitor Center. Free, narrated tram tours are offered every hour on the hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the last tour departing at 3:00 p.m. Tours give an excellent overview of the Garden’s history, mission, and plant collections.
For lunch, the Glasshouse Café overlooking the Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit offers made-to-order sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Pre-made sandwiches as well as coffee and smoothies are available at the outdoor Lakeside Café, which has sweeping views of the palm-lined Pandanus Lake. Refreshments from Starbucks are available in the Visitor Center.
